Fishing in Louisiana Delta country consists of hundreds of square miles Of shallow bayous, ponds, bays, canals, flooded marsh, flooded cypress and fallen timber. When anglers think of South Louisiana, their thoughts generally drift to inshore saltwater species like speckled trout, flounder, black drum, sheephead and redfish.
The Delta is an area that is difficult to describe, simply because it’s so large and has so many different types of water. It includes hundreds of square miles of swamp and canals all the way to the Gulf, and it even extends eastward across the Mississippi River. It is basically a marsh filled with grass and water. Many of the canals lead to ponds and lakes that may be as much as five miles across. East of the Mississippi, it’s more like a prairie because there aren’t that many trees. There are miles of winding canals that suddenly open into a lake that in turn leads right into another lake.
Some of the finest angling both salt and fresh water can be found in the area between Jean Lafitte and lower Plaquemines Parish. Some people drive to these areas and use the banks of some canals and bayous, but most people go by boat. There are many who own their own boats, but for those who do not, the best way is by charter. If you're planning a trip to Bayou Country to do some fishing go to:Find the best deal, compare prices and read what other travelers have to say about hotels in New Orleans then book a charter with usThe boat in the picture at the top of the page is the boat you'll be in if you in if you book a charter with us.
