Who organized smugglers and privateers into an armada of one hundred ships and hundreds of men. They set up storehouses in the Indian shell mounds along the bayou and held open markets for area merchants and plantation owners. Even so, after they helped defend the city in the Battle of New Orleans, General Andrew Jackson pardoned the infamous Baratarians, whose families still live in the maze of bayous and marshland.
From here you'll see alligators, snakes and other wildlife.The Louisiana alligator was hunted almost to extinction but through the efforts of the Louisiana Dept. of Wildlife Fisheries it has made a remarkable comeback.You'll see alligators come right to the boat,playful Otters are often seen and the ever present Nutria will also show up. You'll see some of the most beautiful scenery in Louisiana.There are Cypress trees,Oak trees and Spanish moss.
